GSC 2015/16: Gameweek 1 fixtures

www.goalscorerchallenge.co.uk

Here we go! GoalScorer Challenge kicks off on Saturday with a 12:30 deadline and here’s a preview of the fixtures.

Firstly, a reminder that GSC 2015/16 will pay £1,000 to the winner! To be eligible for this prize all you have to do is register on i-Pools, who are sponsoring the game. When you do so you’ll receive £5 of free bets so why not enter the new GSC Last Longest game on their site? You have to be over 18 and with a UK or Ireland address.

Please tell all your friends about the game. Set up minileagues, email out the details to mates, colleagues or teammates. The more people playing this year, the more likely we can keep giving out decent prizes in future seasons.

So to the fixtures. I won’t be giving too many things away as I think people should generally do their own research, but I also don’t want anyone to be disheartened after one gameweek. So be careful – if you pick a player but he doesn’t play, tough. You still can’t pick them again for the rest of the season. Here, instead, are some handy links:

Let me know if there are any good links I’ve missed and I’ll add them in.

Fixtures

Man Utd v Spurs
This probably won’t be that popular a fixture in terms of GSC picks. Although fixtures between top-6 sides have tended to be fairly high-scoring in recent years so maybe this will be a good opportunity to go big with Rooney or new boy Depay?

Bournemouth v Aston Villa
Possibly tempting. Bournemouth won the Championship last year, scoring 98 goals in the process. If you’re going to pick a Bournemouth player, maybe home to a Villa side missing Vlaar and managed by Tim Sherwood might be worthwhile?

Everton v Watford
This looks to be the stand-out fixture for many of you. But who to pick? There are big injury question marks over a couple of Everton’s forwards including Lukaku, so I’d definitely recommend doing some research before picking someone in this fixture. Maybe you’d prefer Deeney, who’s scored 20+ goals in each of the last 3 Championship seasons?

Leicester v Sunderland
Both sides did well to escape relegation last season and both conceded more than 50 goals. If you can pick which Leicester striker will start, good luck to you. Defoe scored a couple of goals at the end of last season so might be able to hit the ground running.

Norwich v Crystal Palace
Another newly-promoted club and I have no idea who’ll be starting up-front for Norwich – Jerome? Crystal Palace have about 14 strikers so if you’re going to pick one of theirs, maybe Bolasie or Cabaye might be decent outside picks.

Chelsea v Swansea
The champions at home on the first day – that’s got to be worth a look. They didn’t look particularly impressive in pre-season and they’re another side with doubts over which striker will get the nod but they have plenty of goals throughout the side. This time last year Sigurdsson scored at Old Trafford; maybe he can repeat the trick at Stamford Bridge.

Arsenal v West Ham
Arsenal, by contrast, had a very good pre-season. But who will start up-front for them, Giroud or Walcott? Maybe you’ll want to go for one of their midfielders but that could be a minefield too. Wilshere’s out and Sánchez is unlikely to play but there are still plenty of options.

Newcastle v Southampton
A few options here. New Newcastle signings Mitrovic or Wijnaldum? Youngster Aarons? Or maybe you’ll want to go away and for Pellè, who started 2014/15 so well, or Mané, who ended it superbly.

Stoke v Liverpool
This fixture finished 6-1 to the home side at the end of last season. A couple of goals for Diouf in that game might make him an attractive prospect here, while Benteke should make his debut at the other end.

West Brom v Man City
Silva, Agüero and Nasri were all sent home ill from training this week apparently, but they have until Monday to recover. Alternatively maybe you fancy Lambert or Sterling on their debuts for their respective sides?

I’d love some feedback on this – whether this is pointless or whether I’m giving too much away. Let me know! There’s no way I’ll have time to do this each week but if people like the idea maybe someone else will fancy writing a weekly preview?

Good luck everyone, let’s hope for loads of goals.
